Written by Fr. Jean-Marie Bilwala-Kabesa, imc
Tuesday, 30 June 2009
It is not unknown that on 20 June of each year we, Consolata Missionaries always celebrate Our Lady CONSOLATA, who is the Co-Founder of our Congregation according to our Founder, Joseph Allamano. Her name is given to several parishes that we have in all over the world. In Ethiopia, our Lady Consolata is also venerated as patron Saint of ROPI Centre. On Sunday 28 June, Christians were all gathered around priests to celebrate the annual feast of our Centre of Ropi. Many Christians attended that celebration, even people from other religions joined our place for the celebration; such as from orthodox…The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr. Molato, the diocesan priest from Meki Vicariate.

The words of the founder have gone far beyond the confines of the Consolata Missionary Institute to the least of the faithful in our missions.

The baby was born and 12 days later died on a dilapidated upper floor of the Adjamé market in Côte d’Ivoire’s commercial capital Abidjan. The mother, Aminata*, is barely 15. She does not know who the father is. Aminata exchanges sex for money – so she can eat, she said.

Aminata is among scores of young girls – some as young as 10, according to a local NGO – who sell their bodies at Adjamé market, known locally as ‘Biêlôgô’; in the Dioula language, lôgô means market and biê means the female sex organ.
