Rome – Italy: 26th and 27th November 2007.

After the International Pastoral Meeting on Street Children held in 2004, and that on the “Women of the Street” in 2005, the Pontifical Council of the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People called a special international meeting on the Homeless.

The president, Card. Raffaele Martino, and the general Secretary Arch. Agostino Marchetto organized the meeting on the Homeless as the last task of the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People.

A month after returning from the December holiday, we were seated in a community meeting planning for the midterm break. Among many agendas for the meeting was our response to the chaos in the country, the inter-seminary, and the Allamano youth day. From the look of things, it was obvious that people were not as enthusiastic as they had been a month before.

A few weeks before, we had been taking our December exams, and the mood of holidays was high. The fact that the country’s general election was to be held that December made everybody’s morale high also.

Kenya: Can we pull this country together?

Attempts are underway to broker an agreement in Kenya after the shocking outbreak of communal violence which followed the recent disputed elections. Elias Omondi SJ of the Jesuit Hakimani Centre in Nairobi warns that time is running out for a country in danger of being torn apart.

The mediation process led by Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General, is underway, raising hopes that the Kenyan post-election crisis could be ended soon.

Mongolia: Church Has Learned As Well As Grown During First 15 Years

The Catholic Church has completed 15 years in Mongolia, picking up many "lessons" for the future along the way.

"God has done great things for us, and we are glad!" Bishop Wenceslao Padilla, apostolic prefect of Ulaanbaatar, told UCA News recently.

The Filipino Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) prelate arrived with two confreres in 1992 to open the Mongolian mission, and the growth in the numbers of Church personnel and local Catholics since then is an obvious fact.

Today, 64 missioners from 18 countries belonging to nine Religious congregations and a Korean diocese, together with six lay missioners from three countries serve the local Church.
