Maria Consolata, Our Model of the Missionary beyond the third Millennium
News - Our Missionary tell us...

We focus and analyse some characteristics of Mary that could inspire us, on our pastoral methodology and spirituality as we celebrate this feast of our family.

Mary, Observant Missionary

Mary is very keen, and during the wedding at Cana, when wine lacks, she is the first to notice. She does not pack and leave, not stay quiet, but acts to save the situation. She is not indifferent. She is the True Model of Consolation. Mary gives us the force to move each moment to offer forgiveness, reconciliation, joy and peace to the afflicted. She is a Model of an Intercessor, the bridge between the people and Christ. She is courageous. Let us ask ourselves if we are also keen to the minor “lack of new wine in the people” – the Youth, the Old, the Sick, the Rich, the Marginalized, the Women?

While the worldwide is almost in the midst of the year 2007, all of us in Ethiopia are looking forward to celebrating the Millennium. Following the Ethiopian Calendar, from September 2007 it will be the beginning of the year 2000: the New Millennium. As say our Brothers and Sisters in Portuguese language: “Nao fica com os olhos esbugalhados do espanto”, which literally means “do not be amazed at something”.

Nothing makes us astonished to hear it. We have already been acquainted with the reality of our missionary Country that is Ethiopia. Each country has it history, culture, peculiarity …

This has been a timely reminder to you all.

By his “Letter to Bishops, Priests, Consecrated Persons and Lay Faithful of the Catholic Church in the People’s Republic of China”, which bears the date of Pentecost Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI wishes to express his love for and his closeness to the Catholics who live in China. He does so, obviously, as Successor of Peter and Universal Pastor of the Church.

From the text two basic thoughts are clear: on the one hand, the Pope’s deep affection for the entire Catholic community in China and, on the other, his passionate fidelity to the great values of the Catholic tradition in the ecclesiological field; hence, a passion for charity and a passion for the truth. The Pope recalls the great ecclesiological principles of the Second Vatican Council and the Catholic tradition, but at the same time takes into consideration particular aspects of the life of the Church in China, setting them in an ample theological perspective.
