BEGINNING OF FORMATORS MEETING AT BRAVETTA - ROME

This week, all the formators of IMC noviciates and Seminaries of theology, have began their meeting at Bravetta. The opening mass was celebrated yesterday in the evening by the general superior Fr. Aquileo. Today, 27th August 2008, Fr. Paco Lopez, the general councilor in charge of formation led the assembly of formators in presenting and planning the agenda of the meeting. This meeting is scheduled from 27th August 2008 up to 5th September 2008.

Kenya: Repentant Churches Pledge to Work for a Better Nation

The church has failed to be an instrument of peace and unity in Kenya because its own moral credibility is questionable, church leaders have admitted.

Quite often "the church has been caught up in the destructive ethnic, social and economic divisions and conflicts in the nation," some 1,300 pastors said at the weekend.

This admission comes after more than one report on the post-election violence early this year implicated the church in promotion of tribalism and political intolerance.

In Africa's worst conflicts, victims' voices are rarely heard during the elite debate that treats peace and justice as though they were an either-or.

However, thousands of victims in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have told researchers for a newly-published survey that peace and justice must go hand in hand.

West Africa: Coastline to be submerged by 2099

Swathes of West Africa’s coastline extending from the orange dunes in Mauritania to the dense tropical forests in Cameroon will be underwater by the end of the century as a direct consequence of climate change, environmental experts warn.

"The coastline [as it is now] will be completely changed by the end of this century because the sea level is rising along the coast at around two centimetres every year," said Stefan Cramer, Nigeria director of Heinrich Boll Stiftung, a German environmental NGO.
