In a world of technology, one gets lost before he/she can do something to help the poor who cannot afford it. But a nun named Sr. Veronica Thiga, did not get lost, neither did she pretend to compete with it. Armed with a great deal of faith, with a confidence which only faith can provide, she did what she could and was able to do. And she has a record of achievements which is surprising.

Catholic Charities Say G8 Falls Short On Climate Change

The world's rich nations have announced plans to cut carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2050, but international Catholic charities say that the figure falls short of what is needed to save the planet.

Caritas Internationalis representative Joseph Cornelius Donnelly is at the G8 Summit in Japan, representing the 162 member organisations of the Catholic charity network.

"The G8 has a track record of producing glass-is-half-full glass-is-half-empty statements. But now they're playing heads or tails with the future of our planet in a decision that will affect generations to come long after this G8 is forgotten," Donnelly said.

How does ‘Christian Europe’ receive Islam in Europe ? How to address the fear of ‘Islamisation’ of Europe and what are the chances for ‘Europeanisation’ of Islam? These were the questions addressed during the third meeting of the series of Dialogue Seminars devoted to Islam, Christianity and Europe organised by CEC, COMECE and the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation, on 3 July 2008 in the European Parliament.

According to Sara Silvestri, Professor at Cambridge University and the City University of London, Islam has clearly contributed to Culture and Science in Europe, whilst having had less influence on the political and legal organisation of society, by contrast with Christianity.

Mongolia: Bishop wants catholics to stay calm, safe during state of emergency

The head of the Mongolian Catholic Church has urged Catholics to remain calm and stay away from daily Mass during the four-day state of emergency the government imposed following post-election violence.

"Parishioners should be careful, and if the state of emergency exceeds the initially announced four days, they may stay away from Sunday Mass if they think their safety could be in danger," Bishop Wenceslao Padilla told UCA News on July 2.
