Five people have died in violent protests in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator over alleged electoral fraud, says Justice Minister Tsend Munkhorgil.
More than 300 people were hurt, he said, including many police. Hundreds of people have been detained.

In order to strengthen our voice as advocates for a transformation of U.S. policies toward Africa, we must take what we learn from the AFJN Conference back home and use it in our own congregations and communities. Our conference is only one step in our work to create change. The United States functions as a representative democracy, meaning our elected officials work for us. However, they must hear from us and our congregations in order to know how to represent us. Becoming a grassroots activist now can set the stage for new policies that promote peace and justice in Africa this year and in the future. |

“But what is wrong with this vehicle?” Fr. Franco Cellana asked aloud after trying to start it yet again. He had done it seven times and the eighth and the ninth didn’t work. Not even pushing it to jump-start could work. The workers of Mukothima mission had been of great help in pushing the car, but even themselves were sure that the vehicle would never start even if a hundred attempts to jump start it were made. What complicated issues was that the vehicle’s engine system was new to most of us and therefore not even the instructions of brother Gaetano through the phone from Nairobi would help. Things were just too technical for us to see the problem. Everybody wished that Br. Gaetano was present in person. |

A Priest’s call
To live in the midst of the world without wishing its pleasures; to be a member of each family, yet belonging to none; to share all sufferings, to penetrate all secrets; to heal all wounds; to go from men to God and offer Him their prayers; to return from God to men to bring pardon and hope; to have a heart of fire for charity and a heart of bronze for chastity; to teach and to pardon, console and bless always. |
