The Religious of Johannesburg Archdiocese aware of the situation in Zimbabwe decided to ask the Archbishop to celebrate the Eucharist on the 31 May to pray for the country and its peoples. Shortly after this plan was made, the xenophobic violence broke out. The Justice & Peace Department of the Archdiocese decided to hold a march calling on the Citizens of South Africa to adopt other means, non-violent, to sort out social concerns. |

Kenya: Vatican forum to study care of refugees and migrants |

The Holy See has organised a pan-African conference on pastoral care of refugees and migrants. The 3-day event is titled, 'Towards better pastoral care of Migrants and Refugees in Africa at the dawn of the Third Millenium.' It will take place at the Resurrection Garden retreat centre from June 3-5.
The conference will be attended by representatives from over 20 African nations, including bishops and pastoral care workers. It will be an opportunity for listening, reflection, and dialogue in order to find new means for pastoral activity uniquely designed for the millions of migrants and refugees of Africa. |

When four-year-old Alice Were suddenly developed a fever, her mother Miriam took her to the local medicine woman close to her house in Kangemi, a poor, cramped settlement on the outskirts of the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
Two days later, Alice was unconscious. Her frantic mother rushed to hospital with the child in her arms. But it was too late. Alice died of malaria. |
