Exploitation and abuse of human trafficking victims, mainly taken from Mozambique to South Africa, has seen a surge in media headlines but experts warn this is just "the tip of the iceberg."
There have been 52 suspected cases of trafficking involving young women and children since the beginning of the year, according to Save the Children-United Kingdom (SC-UK) Mozambique. The latest involved the sexual enslavement of three Mozambican children, aged between 14 and 16, at a brothel in South Africa's capital, Pretoria. |

Would you feel delighted with me to quote the Supreme Pontiff BENEDICT XVI, in his Encyclical Letter, “DEUS CARITAS EST.” to the Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Men and Women religious and all the lay faithful on Christian love, n. 42: “(…) the words addressed by the crucified Lord to his disciple - to John and through him to all disciples of Jesus: ‘ Behold your mother!” (John 19:27) – are fulfilled anew in every generation. Mary has truly become the Mother of all believers. |

The week of 16th March happened to be not only a busy one but also an enjoyable one. Due to a graduation ceremony that was to take place on Wednesday 19th, we had only two days of school. The graduation was the 20th graduation of Tangaza College, and it was well attended. After the opening Mass, Mrs. Gaturi, a professor at Kenyatta University awarded the graduands their diplomas in different fields. Although many of the supposed-to be graduands were not around (including our two confreres who are already in the year of service) the ceremony was colourful. |

If you don’t mind, would you allow me to make my short reflexion based on the fideism instead of being limited only on the rationalism. At first sight, the Virgin Mary was chosen by God to be the Mother of humanity Saviour. (Lk 1: 28-35). Then, Our Founder, Joseph Allamano in his life and letters recommends us, Consolata Missionaries, to give a particular place for St Mary in our lives and missions. In the end, the response of Mary which is transformed into praise’s song helps us a lot to get values and has to make us think of our type of life in our communities. Among many other values seen in her, we really need to revere St Mary as Our Model, Mother... |

Easter Monday marks the 28th anniversary of the martyrdom of Monseñor Oscar Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador, who once said, “as a Christian, I do not believe in death without resurrection. If they kill me I will rise again in the people of El Salvador.” Rodolfo Cardenal SJ writes about the legacy of Archbishop Romero - very much alive in the Church today.Pope Benedict XVI, speaking of the foundations of the Salvadoran Church to the country's episcopal conference at the end of their ad limina visit to Rome last month, praised Archbishop Romero as a “pastor filled with love of God”, committed to the preaching of the Word of God (Allocution of 28 February 2008). |
