The young Catholic Church in Mongolia is moving onward slowly but steadily, Bishop Wenceslao Padilla, apostolic prefect of Ulaanbaatar, told the pope during his recent ad limina meeting.
Pope Benedict XVI's meeting on Dec. 3 with Bishop Padilla was his first with the head of the Catholic Church in Mongolia since becoming pope in 2005.
Ad limina visits are a practice dating back to the fourth century. Every five years, according to current Church practice, each diocesan bishop is expected to meet with the pope and present a report on his diocese. |

We, the Consolata Missionary animators (IMC and MC), gathered together in Sagana for the Continental one month course, send you greetings and wish you a fruitful advent season. This event is an implementation of the proposal from the last AMV continental meeting held in Iringa (Tanzania) 2004. The objective is to help the participants so that they may be evangelizers, animators and formators. We are from South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, D. R. Congo, Kenya, Ivory Coast, and Ethiopia. |

One of the three dimensions of our missionary presence and activity in Korea is the Dialogue with other Religions. This cannot be achieved without proper formation and study. For this reason, we have our Fr Peter Githaiga attending the Jesuit University in Seoul, where he studies Compared Religions. I asked him to share with us about his academic experience. (Fr Alvaro Pacheco)“Religion is a wizard a sibyl… She faces the wreck of the worlds, and prophesies restoration. She faces the sky blood-red with sunset colours that deepen into darkness, and prophesies dawn. She faces death, and prophesies life.” (Felix Adler) |

Those were the words chosen as the theme for this year’s Pilgrimage to Maria Ratschitz, in the diocese of Dundee. There were other biblical suggestions on the table, but Jesus’ mandate to his disciples of all times and places got the first place, and quite rightly! Due to the public servants’ strike – with the result that they had to work on Saturdays for three months – the Pilgrimage took place on a Sunday. This was something new, since the pilgrimage had been taking place on a Saturday at least during the recent years. The great number of pilgrims that made their way to the 19th century Mission of Maria Ratschitz was a complete surprise to everybody. |

South Africa: Joys and sorrows of a Parish Priest |

Our Missionary tell us...

When appointed to a mission or a parish, the priest is invited by the Bishop, or by the superior, to take it easy, not to start by changing time tables, arrangements of sitting in Church, uniforms of extraordinary Eucharistic ministers, etc., but to be patient, study the situation, consult with the pastoral parish council (PPC), before taking decisions. Nobody likes to have his routine disrupted without proper explanation especially a church’s congregation. The first three months may not be easy for the new priest but then, little by little, things will become clearer and easier. A priest coming to a new congregation comes with plans and expectations and so does the congregation that receives the new priest. Will these plans and expectations coincide or not? As a rule, adjustments will have to be made by both parties. |
