Poverty in South Africa registered a strong decline between 2002 and last year, official data released by Statistics South Africa.
The ratio of households in which one child went hungry fell to 2.4% last year from 6.7% in 2002, while the ratio in which an adult went hungry fell to 2.5% from 6.9%, according to an annual survey from Statistics South Africa.
Other key living standard measures showed that the proportion of households with access to electricity, water, toilets and waste removal rose significantly during that period, backing evidence that conditions for South Africa’s poor are improving. |

No one seems to be out of globalization movement. We are in somehow affected without knowing. We need to stop a little bit and question us about our lives in this world.
One answer is found within us as Regional members. Ethiopian region would like to “modernize” it Vocational and Animation Centre according to the needs of all the people. We can compare the Vocational and Animation Centre to “Bromide”, which means a chemical compound used in medicine to calm the nerves. The Vocational and Animation Centre gives the opportunity in somehow to be in touch with our Lord through prayers; to calm the sorrows and for orientation of life and future. |

Insecurity in North Kivu province in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has led to the displacement of an estimated 650,000 civilians, the largest number of people to have fled their homes because of conflict in the region in the past three years, a spokesman for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said. "The province has witnessed the worst IDP [internally displaced persons] situation in three years, with 163,000 more IDPs having been displaced since January," Jens Hesemann, spokesman for UNHCR, told IRIN on 16 July. |

The first profession for our institute is a great moment and celebration. It is a moment of renewing our commitment for those already professed and a great sign of hope for the Church and the Institute.
This month of July on the 14th at Sagana, we witnessed fifteen young men commit their life to the missionary apostolate of the Church and the institute for sixteen months. Those that professed are from: Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia - this was also a sign of internationality. The newly professed will now proceed for theological studies in different Theologicums in Kenya, DR Congo, Brazil, Colombia and Italy-Rome. |

Promoters of new cultures for income proclaim strongly all advantages of the culture of Jatropha: “survives to drought, grows in arid soils, fast growth, many uses possible with every part of the plant, very easy biodiesel production …”The ‘Agro-businessmen’ justify expansion of monoculture for biofuels by, in the North, fighting for climate change and against pollution of transportation fuel, and, in the South, by an opportunity to enlarge the sources of income and to enter on the global market. Their lobby is very active. For example, in 2005-2006, the European Commission called for a committee of experts counseling its policy on biofuels; this committee was made of experts coming from…car and oil industries and biotechnology companies! It is true that selling oil of Jatropha for biofuels returns more then selling it for food. But who gains? |
