Mongolia: Church Has Learned As Well As Grown During First 15 Years |

 The Catholic Church has completed 15 years in Mongolia, picking up many "lessons" for the future along the way.
"God has done great things for us, and we are glad!" Bishop Wenceslao Padilla, apostolic prefect of Ulaanbaatar, told UCA News recently.
The Filipino Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) prelate arrived with two confreres in 1992 to open the Mongolian mission, and the growth in the numbers of Church personnel and local Catholics since then is an obvious fact.
Today, 64 missioners from 18 countries belonging to nine Religious congregations and a Korean diocese, together with six lay missioners from three countries serve the local Church. |

 Ms. Coomaraswamy, Special Representative of the Secretary- General for Children and Armed Conflict presented the Annual Report of the Secretary-General to the Security Council on Children and Armed Conflict (A/32/609-S/2007/757). It will be examined by the Security Council during its Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict that should take place on 12 February 2008.
The report highlights progress in the implementation of SC Resolution 1612 and its monitoring and reporting mechanism. It includes information on compliance in ending recruitment and use of children by armed groups and other grave violations. Its annexes contain a naming and shaming list of parties (states and non state actors) committing these grave abuses. |

Africa tells Brussels: “No to EPAs; Yes to APDs”
On the 11th January, Africans living in Europe organised a demonstration in Brussels to make clear in no uncertain terms their refusal to accept the EPAs which should have been well under way early this year. Instead, they called for APDs: Agreements Promoting Development. |

The largest, most inclusive fellowship of churches in the world, and the pre-eminent face of 20th century ecumenism, is grappling with a very different world today - politically, economically, religiously - than the one it faced following the second world war. |

 The Abbey of the Genesee, a Trappist Abbey in New York, has sent this appeal for prayers. Our Trappist brothers of Our Lady of Victory Abbey in Kenya, East Africa find themselves right in the middle of the violence that erupted in that country. The following bulletin was posted on the Order's web site requesting prayers for them:
This message was sent on Sunday, January 20, to the Generalate by Dom Bernardus of Tilburg who has been in contact with Dom Dominic of Victoria Abbey in Kenya and Mgr. Lebeaupin, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya.
