After a long silence, Documentation IMC is back again!
Documentation is about the internal life of our Institute, about formation and exchange. Unfortunately, and for many reasons, its existence has never been easy. However, the tenacity of the General Government has always maintained it alive, and now it springs back with new zest and filled with hope. We read in the Programming of the General Government for the present term in office: “Documentation IMC”: It is hereby entrusted to the care of the Secretariat for the Mission. It will come out every four months. It will carry studies and reflections by confreres on themes pertaining to our charism and the mission. It will also offer more extensive reports on the continental meetings and assemblies of our Institute relative to the various sectors of our activities. (cf. Programming of the General Government for 1999-2005, Part II, n. 4). The Secretariat for the Mission began its work and now presents the first number of the magazine under its own responsibility. As fruit of dialogue with the General Government, we have decided not to publish monographic issues, although some exceptions may occur. We think that the presentation of assorted materials that relate to one or more of the themes and sectors concerning our charism and our mission will interest more our missionaries. It is also our hope that Documentation IMC will not only publish formative material or reports of meetings just for the reading of the material. We would rather like to offer, each and every time, materials that offer concrete incentives, so that the contents of Documentation IMC may become true agents of Ongoing Formation, maybe effectively used in community meetings, and may become a source of discussion and in-depth studies. We would be happy if readers would send us their reactions to it – even if we realize that that would be to ask for too much! The ongoing formation that the 10th General Chapter asks for is very demanding: it cannot be just another form of updating. “It must motivate the whole person by a deepening and an assimilation of our charism, of the spirit of the Founder, of the ideals of consecration, of communion and of Mission” (Acts, pg. 54). It is our sincere wish that Documentation IMC will cooperate, as a means and as a vehicle, in the development of this ongoing formation.
