                                                                                                         December 1, 2005

Dear Delegate,

On June 20th of last year, feast of our Blessed Mother Consolata, in the name of the General Council, I summoned the Eleventh General Chapter of the Institute.

Having completed now the process of electing the representatives of each Region/Delegation, I am mailing you this letter to invite you to participate in this important event of our missionary Family. The General Directory of the Institute requires that each  member of the Chapter, upon receiving this letter of summon, write to the General Superior to express the acceptance of his mandate as Chapter Delegate.

In my letter of convocation, I mentioned that the General Chapter will take place in São Paulo (Brazil), and it will begin the 10th of April, 2005, with a solemn Eucharistic celebration. It is therefore necessary that each delegate be in S. Paulo not later than the 9th of April. It is expected that the Chapter will end around May 15th, the solemnity of Pentecost. This forecast of the end of the Chapter is just indicative, in as much as it will be the Chapter itself to determine its unfolding and duration.

Together with this letter, I am sending you the Instrumentum Laboris which is divided into two parts:

  • The title of the first part is:

This is How I Would Like You To Be:

OUR STYLE OF MISSION

It collects and synthesizes the orientations which the Institute has produced, and which bond us Consolata Missionaries together in communion of life and unity of work.

  • A second part follows whose title is:

Guidelines for Consolata Missions

  SUGGESTIONS FROM OUR CONFRÈRES.

This second part was added following the  various suggestions of many missionaries who, while answering the questionnaires of the Lineamenta, did ask for new future oriented guide lines. From all their input, ten working documents were prepared, each outlining a theme.

The Intrumentum Laboris is now being mailed to the Chapter Delegates who, in their turn, are asked to study, with their respective Regional Directions, appropriate ways to stir up and collect further suggestions and proposals from their constituencies. During the month of March 2005, the Instrumentum Laboris, translated in the various languages, will be available to all Missionaries on our web-site.

I am confident that each Chapter Delegate will prepare himself to for this challenge, by widening first of all his knowledge and communion with our religious Family. In fact, each Delegate goes to the Chapter to search for the good of the whole Institute. We will increase during the coming months our prayer to the Holy Spirit, so that He may grant us to be persons able to listen well, and to establish an open and constructive dialogue. We will ask for us and for all the Delegates wisdom to discern the paths prepared by the Lord  to the mission of our Institute, and paressìa which will allow us to make courageous and necessary choices.

I take advantage of this opportunity to thank once more the Regional Direction of Brazil for having accepted with enthusiasm the proposal to hold the General Chapter in Sâo Paulo. I know that they are doing their best, through a very intense work, to make the “Mission Animation Center J. Allamano” a very suitable place for this event, which, in turn,  will allow for a smooth running of the Chapter itself.

I conclude by entrusting you to the intercession of the Consolata and of our Blessed Founder, and I send you my brotherly greetings.
