REGIONAL CONFERENCES

APPROVAL OF ACTS

IVORY COAST DELEGATION CONFERENCE

Prot. n. 28/06

The General Council approves the Ivory Coast Conference Acts with pleasure. We congratulate all our confrères for their efforts to work together both in the preparatory meetings and in the Conference itself. Moreover the commitment to understanding your real-world situation and discerning the signs of the Gospel seed are worthy of note.

While approving the Acts the General Council would ask you to pay special attention to the following items.

  1. Keep up your study on the mission; renew your efforts to inculturate the Christian message; take into account how important programs of reconciliation are in a country that has suffered so much.

  2. Emphasize the new approach of “Consolation” in your efforts to fit into your world; this has always characterized our work in the Ivory Coast.

  3. We would encourage a sober realism in balancing your commitments to the personnel and means available lest your commitments overwhelm you.

  4. With regard to our new work in the capital, the Council would ask you to give more thought before establishing a community. Bear in mind our geographical distribution, available personnel and the services we have been called to perform among this people.

We send you our greetings with the words St. Paul addressed to Timothy: “As for you, always be stead, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry (2 Timothy 4,5).

May the God of peace and hope and Mary, the Consolata, guide your missionary journey and lead you safely to your destination.

TANZANIA REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Prot. n. 29/06

The General Council gives thanks to the Lord for the good you have accomplished in this country and is pleased to approve the Acts of your IX Regional Conference which complete the Chapter planning. Moreover the Council fully supports your working goals: Community, Communion and Mission! They constitute the cornerstone of missionary work. Your efforts to see religious life as discipleship of Christ and not just a habit are noteworthy. We also find it interesting that you put community at the center of your considerations. You recognize and accept both the weaknesses, accomplishments and challenges that this involves. A community that is not closed in upon itself but is open to the mission.

While the Council approves the Acts there are nevertheless certain things it would like to call to your attention:

  1. The document does not pay sufficient attention to the social, political and religious situation and the challenges that confront individual missionaries and IMC communities. Study and discussion of this subject should continue in Regional Assemblies and permanent formation events.

  2. We would urge the Regional Council to provide a more concrete working plan that would lead to real progress in the Region.

  3. While the Conference made an honest effort to examine all those subjects brought up in the General Chapter there were certain important areas not adequately addressed: downsizing, balancing our work with available personnel, assigning three missionaries to each community, providing care for our elderly … All of these must figure into annual regional and community planning.

  4. A final observation on the CAM project. This CAM project represents a new way of approaching the mission and defines missionary service in your region. It is the Council’s fervent wish that it may become an instrument of missionary spirituality that will make our mission/vocation promotion more effective, relevant and successful in recruiting vocations. We hope that this project will become a source of renewal for the missionaries too.

The General Directorate urges the Regional Council and all the missionaries of the Region to commit themselves seriously to carrying out this program. May their efforts show courage, determination and an awareness of the Spirit that guides and supports our missionary apostolate.

May Blessed Allamano and Our Blessed Lady, the Consolata, bless and be with you always!

ITALY REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Prot. n. 40/06

It is with great pleasure that the General Council approves the Acts of your Regional Conference. We take this occasion to thank you for the many services your render our missionary family. May the Lord bless and provide all the necessary graces to continue your service to Him.

Preparation for this conference has involved all the communities of your region; so many missionaries have worked for its success. The atmosphere was both peaceful and fraternal in spite of the wide variety of conflicting opinions and diverse experience of the missionary enterprise. The acts are well formulated and the missionary program it outlines is both clear and challenging. As a General Council:

  1. We support your reorganization into zone. This, we believe, is a good way to involve everyone in missionary work here in Italy. We would encourage and urge you to take an active part in meetings. They reinforce our fraternity, ongoing formation and provide mutual support in your efforts at missionary promotion.

  2. We support your plans to improve fraternal life by emphasizing the simplicity and sobriety that make your communities meaningful, believable and exemplary.

  3. We would encourage you to prepare a youth program – this is the cornerstone of our missionary service in society and the local church.

  4. We support your choice of mission/vocation promotion (AMV) as a priority. We urge you to move forward in this area in spite of the many difficulties you encounter. Make our parishes and the local church sensitive to the mission and do not try and open new parishes.

  5. We encourage collaboration and communion – especially in the area of mission/vocation promotion – between the work of your region and our periodicals. Strive to achieve a coordinated and unitary mission program.

We assure you of our continued prayers to the Lord and Our Lady, the Consolata on your behalf. May they bless each of you and may Blessed Allamano intercede for you.

KOREA DELEGATION CONFERENCE

Prot. n. 41/06

Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality” (Romans 12, 9-13). With these words of St. Paul we approve the Acts of your Conference and we encourage you to continue the progress in fraternity you have begun so hopefully and so courageously: the mission in Korea is not a simple one.

The conference documents reveals the progress you have made together – this is obvious from your examination of the meaning of mission and the challenges that currently confront our family. Your priorities are both clear and challenging: mission/vocation promotion (AMV), inter-religious dialogue, solidarity with the poor.

After examining your document there are two recommendations we would make:

  1. Fidelity to the priorities of mission/vocation promotion and interreligious dialogue. These two missionary priorities are the distinguishing mark of our work in Korea. Admittedly it is an uphill road – there are so many obstacles: lack of local awareness, the insensitivity to the mission in both culture and church, the difficulty of reaching people, our small number. If we are to make the fire that burns in our heart apparent we must continue to support these efforts; they will one day benefit both society and the Church.

  2. Fidelity to the missio ad gentes and the missio ad extra. These two phrases have taken on new anthropological, cultural and religious significance; they are the decisive reason why we work on the boundaries, on the edge. Your Delegation has chosen the evangelization of the poor as the special way you will proclaim the Gospel in a wealthy society. Our ad gentes and ad extra goals place us necessarily among the poor – they are a revelation and gift for us all. We urge you to continue your discernment, to work seriously so that this challenge and program will become a reality. If you do this you will become a mission icon and a point of reference for all those who live and dream about the future of our mission in Korea.

The communion and collaboration you have already initiated with the missionaries in Mongolia is of special significance. We urge you to continue these efforts with the creativity that comes from the Spirit of the Mission. Think and dream about the future of the Asian mission; you may even think about that enormous world that is China.

May the Lord and Our Lady, the Consolata, bless your work and your discernment.

SOUTH AFRICA DELEGATION CONFERENCE

Prot. n. 42/06

Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence” (1 Peter 3,15).

The General Council approves the South African Regional Conference Acts. We well understand the difficulties your mission faces in South Africa.

The Conference document is a lean and unadorned text that represents a choice we both support and encourage.

  1. Identity – belonging. We encourage you to continue with your program of communion and family spirit. This represents not just mutual esteem, trust and respect but also efforts to plan, work and make progress together. The path you have chosen – to become known as “Consolata Missionaries” is a beautiful one. Similarly beautiful is your decision to have a superior who is more available, who will guide individual communities and missionaries, serving both individuals and the mission.

  2. Mission/Vocation Promotion. Your decision to reinforce mission/vocation promotion (AMV) is an important one. The 11th General Chapter stated forcefully “AMV is a qualified service for mission and Churches …” (Acts 72.1) Mission promotion is a service to the local Church: it allows the whole people of God to take ownership of the apostolate – especially the missio ad gentes. We concentrate on our presence which must be always and everywhere distinctly and clearly missionary. We must have a specifically missionary view of vocations – the witness of missionary and religious life.

  3. A new mission program. At this point it is indispensable that we develop a missionary program that defines our presence in this country. We must ask ourselves – honestly and with an eye to the future – what sort of Consolata Missionaries we hope to be in South Africa. The missions are a passion for God, the Church and the World that we nourish in our hearts and that is ever with us. Being missionaries does not make us indifferent to what is going on in our country – either in society or the Church. There is no excuse for extinguishing the spirit – that “something extra” our Founder demanded.

Let us concentrate on the quality of our communities, our Congregation and let us aim at being “new wine” for the mission.

The General Council approves the Conference Acts and urges you to carry out your program.

May our Blessed Founder and Our Lady, the Consolata, help and guide you on your path. Move forward in the Lord!

RORAIMA (AMAZONIA) REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Prot. n. 44/06

The General Council congratulates the missionaries of your region for what you have recently accomplished in the area of consolation: the approval of the Area Indigena Raposa Serra do Sol.

After reading the document that came out of your VII Regional Conference:

  • We took note – with interest – of the detailed report of what has been accomplished.

  • We took note of the precise goals of your Region’s Missionary Program.

  • We agree with your priorities: work among the indigenous population, apostolate to those on the outskirts of the city, mission/vocation promotion (AMV), formation and specialized assistance to the local Church.

The Council approves these Acts and urges you:

    1. To pay attention to the consequences that may befall individual missionaries and communities as a result of your choice to work among the marginalized.

    2. To rediscover the spirituality of Consolation – our defining characteristic from the very beginning. This can be done by getting closer and living among the people.

    3. To appreciate your annual meetings: the Regional Assembly, the annual course on mission subjects, retreats – all of these are occasions for fraternity, discussion and prayer together; they will help you live out your consecration and apostolic service.

    4. To continue your work in the area of mission/vocation promotion and initial formation; create a program that can be reviewed periodically.

    5. To study and move along the path of interreligious dialogue. In your case this would especially involve traditional religions. This should be done with people who are expert in this area and could help and guide you.

    6. To accompany the substitution of “Roraima Region” to “Amazonia Region” with a change of mentality and attitudes which meet the challenges of the Amazonia Region and help the local Church to have a distinctive face.

    7. To work in unity with the Consolata Sisters, the Consolata Lay Missionaries and other church and social groups working on projects in which the Region is involved.

With the hope that this process will produce progress in holiness and evangelization, we entrust you to the care of Our Mother, the Consolata and Blessed Allamano.

Rome, June 20, 2006

Fr. Aquiléo Fiorentini, Superior General

Fr. Darci Vilarinho, Secretary General

SPAIN REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Prot. n. 45/06

The General Council congratulates you on the handsome document produced by the IX Regional Conference. It is an expression of your refusal to surrender to difficulties and your intention of overcoming them with new efforts and ideas.

We would encourage you to put this document into action. It will be a witness to fraternity and a shared objective in the midst of a society that is ever more fragmented and pluralist.

We approve the Acts and urge you to consider the following points:

  1. Discuss and practice discernment in the area of mission/vocation promotion (AMV) especially at one of your annual meetings. The priorities you outline are both important and specific: missionary spirituality, communications, immigrants, interreligious dialogue. These should characterize your missionary program; don’t let yourselves be distracted by the idea of opening new parishes.

  2. Guide and strengthen your work with Consolata Lay Missionaries; this is a great resource for both our Congregation and Spain itself. Move forward and work with them in the work of renewal that your region has initiated.

  3. Continue participation in SCAM (Servicio Conjunto de Animación Misionera), an example of unity among missionary congregations that gives witness to Spanish society and helps renew it.

  4. Devise and carry out a program for youth work with the Consolata Missionary Sisters and the Consolata Lay Missionaries.

We are certain that Blessed Allamano and Our Lady, the Consolata, will intercede for you and your work. We call down the blessing of the Lord upon you.

Rome, June 20, 2006

Fr. Aquiléo Fiorentini, Superior General

Fr. Darci Vilarinho, Secretary General

VENEZUELA DELEGATION CONFERENCE

Prot. N. 50/06

You are the salt of the earth … You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5,13-14)

At the urging of the “Concilio Plenario” of the Church of Venezuela you have chosen these words from Matthew’s Gospel to mark preparation for and living of your Sixth Conference. Certainly this is a fitting life plan for all Christians and especially for missionaries.

Disciples must make the transforming power of the Gospel visible in their lives; they must demonstrate a new love – the love revealed by Christ. Seeking to renew our life in its various dimensions – consecration, fraternity, mission – requires that we live the beatitudes in depth. We must be prophets not just with our words but more importantly with our actions.

Being salt and light demands increased efforts to inculturate the faith. Through the power of the Gospel this inculturation comes from within and will renew our values, the way we judge and think and the examples of contemporary and missionary life we provide.

We approve the acts of your Conference and entrust you continued work in the Venezuela Mission to our Mother, the Consolata.

After reading the Conference Acts there are certain suggestions we would make:

  • Your efforts at continuity with the fifth Conference is, in our opinion, important. It is vital that we build mission projects that are the fruit of a process and that will safeguard gradual progress.

  • You stress the need for preparation, study and discussion if you are to provide an appropriate response to the challenges you encounter. Do not be afraid to take time out for personal and community formation. The mission need persons who are capable and aware of human and societal reality; persons ready to collaborate with a genuine missio ad gentes project.

  • In this document and in your preparation for the Conference there was no analysis of the current situation in Venezuela. There must be discernment – in the light of the Gospel – of this particular moment in the country’s life with all the internal and external consequences involved.

  • Certainly the Delegation’s work with the Consolata Sisters to establish a new foundation in the Vicariate of Tucupita is impressive. May this project be carried out with a unity of purpose and genuine missionary effort to inculturate the Gospel in the world in which you work.

  • May the clear choice you have made for vocation recruitment move you to present the missionary vocation to young people enthusiastically.

Within the framework of the “Concilio Plenario” strive to encounter Christ who will bring about both personal and community conversion. He will lead you to greater communion with the Church and more far-reaching solidarity with men – especially the poor.

May God, the Light of the World, and the intercession of Our Father Allamano enlighten and guide you.

Rome, June 27, 2006

Fr. Aquiléo Fiorentini, Superior General

Fr. Darci Vilarinho, Secretary General
