A nun who died trying to help patients when a fire broke out at a care centre last weekend will be buried Tuesday. The requiem mass for Sr Anne Theole, the novice mistress of the Nardini sisters, will be celebrated at 10.30 am, April 10, at Inkhamana Abbey, Vryheid in Kwa Zulu Natal. Sr Anne died trying to rescue patients at the Duduza Care Centre at the Maria Ratschitz Mission during a fire on Sunday night. The devastating fire at midnight destroyed the Duduza Hospice. Sr Anne assisted moving bedridden patients out of the building. She insisted on going back to assist the patients on the first floor but the fire moved too quickly for her to get out. Sr Anne was born in Manzini, Swaziland and completed her Secondary Education in Empangeni, Kwa Zulu Natal with the Dominican Sister of St Catherine of Sienna. She studied teaching at the Edgewood training College in Pinetown. She joined the Nardini sisters in 1994 and taught in Vryheid from 1996 to 2004. She made her Solemn Profession on 21 July 2001. In January 2005, she was elected as Novice Mistress. Those who worked with her remember her care, efficiency and love. Sr Anne is survived by her mother and the Nardini Community.
