Congo: Obasanjo Pushes for Ceasefire

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday held a peace meeting with Democratic Republic of Congo's rebel leader, Laurent Nkunda, seeking an end to armed hostilities between the government troops and rebels.

In what has been described as a major breakthrough, the Congolese rebel leader pledged to throw his weight behind the United Nations (UN) peace process on conditions that the government troops cease hostilities with the rebel group.

"Come my brothers praise the Lord…" the choir master started the entrance hymn exactly as we had expected. We had prepared for the occasion a whole week and we could not afford to ruin it with poor singing. Intuitively, each of us found his voice and the whole assembly was electrified with hymn after hymn. The two communities rhymed so well that you could have thought that they were actually one community.

Mozambique: Cholera spreads in central provinces

Fears that cholera may already be spreading throughout central Mozambique has forced the government to issue the highest state of alert.

"We are dealing with a cholera outbreak and unfortunately it has already started spreading," Fernanda Teixeira, Secretary General of the Red Cross in Mozambique told IRIN. "In the beginning we were not sure if it was cholera because of the high mortality rates."

There are two words used a great deal by Jesus in the Gospel. One is 'Come' and the other is 'Go'. We all know that it is no use coming unless you are ready to go. Likewise, you cannot go unless you have come. Thus the religion of Jesus begins with the verb 'Follow' and ends with the word 'Go'. However, going to a foreign land is not always like taking a leisurely walk in the park. Leaving your friends and relations, country and culture is easily contemplated than done. But this is a reality that every missionary must be ready to face. It becomes more challenging when you are the Pioneers in a Region. This is exactly what we felt before we met Frs.  Tarcisio Foccoli and Rocco Marra.
