Ethiopia: Glance at Christmas feast

Wednesday January 7, in Ethiopia, all the Christians celebrated Christmas Feast. People sent each other card, SMS: messages through mobiles phone and gave gifts to their families and friends. In homes and stores, evergreen trees glittered with colorful lights and ornaments. In some families, children looked forward to seeing a jolly, white-bearded man in a red suit named Santa Claus. Introduction: Christmas is based on the story of Christ’s birth as described from the New Testament in the Gospels of Mt 1:18-2:12 and Luke 1:26-56. It is a Christian festival celebrating birth of Jesus-Christ.

Canada: Epiphany at Toronto

The Magi would have been startled, if their journey had ended at our nativity today, on the Epiphany. They would have found Mary without the child Jesus!

Yesterday night the statue of the Baby disappeared from the crib we had prepared outside the Mission Centre. A neighbour, today, came at the door and told us that she had seen some children going away with the statue.

Gaza priest's message at Mass for peace: 'We cry and nobody hears us'

The pastor of the Catholic parish in Gaza City described Gaza as "drowning in blood" as hospitals overflowed with patients.

In a message to participants in a special Mass for peace at St. Stephen Church in Jerusalem Jan. 4, Msgr. Manuel Musallam, pastor of Holy Family Parish in Gaza City, wrote: "What you see on television cannot be compared to what is happening. The word love is choking in my throat. ... We are living like animals in Gaza. We cry and nobody hears us. I am asking God for mercy and pray that the light of Christianity continues to shine in Gaza."

Probably inspired by the above phrase from the “Spiritual Life” of the Founder, the South African delegation organized a two-day get together meeting. The missionaries spent the 29th and 30th day of Dec. 2008 at Damesfontein mission. The meeting was not just of a collection of individuals brought together by the winds of circumstances nor was it a mere meeting of members of the same society.
